Greetings,

It gives me great pleasure to introduce DESTINATION GATINEAU, the largest recreational and tourism development project in our history. This project aims to make Gatineau a world-class tourist destination, thanks to the redevelopment of the banks of the Ottawa River, between the Chaudière Falls and the Lady Aberdeen Bridge. It will notably propose the resettlement of the Canada Science and Technology Museum and the development of the Promenade des civilisations. This development will allow for activities to take place at the heart of Gatineau, for ten months of the year, all the while highlighting the natural beauty of this site.

All in all, DESTINATION GATINEAU will offer an incomparable tourist experience, worthy of the National Capital Region and of the Canadian Museum of Civilization, the most visited museum in the country! While complementing existing tourism possibilities, the project will provide an opportunity for the public to gather and to take ownership of this magnificent site, especially during major events.

A project of such magnitude cannot come to fruition without assistance; that is why I wish to thank the invaluable collaborators and partners of DESTINATION GATINEAU, including DE-CLD Gatineau, Tourisme Outaouais, Economic Development Canada, the Canadian Museum of Civilization, and the Québec Government. I also wish to express my deep appreciation to the National Capital Commission for their unwavering support from the outset of the venture.

DESTINATION GATINEAU will put a new face on Gatineau and the National Capital Region, all the while providing citizens with renewed access to these magnificent sites, the birthplace of several nations. DESTINATION GATINEAU... where civilizations meet!

Marc Bureau
Mayor,
City of Gatineau
